Destination coffee

History

Having existed now for fourteen years, the Transat Jacques Vabre has established a rhythm and a format, convinced racers and excited the public, while confirming its legitimacy and strengthening its alliances. The basic idea in the beginning was a simple one: a major race based around a historic route. Like a good coffee, a race is a delicate mixture of flavours, tastes and aromas. A winning formula for this transatlantic race... espresso!

Transat 1997

1997 - Astringent Flavour

With its repetitition every two years, the Transat Jacques Vabre , hammered out its vocation to become an unmissable event in the international calendar. The third edition in 1997 confirmed the growth in stature of the race as some eighteen yachts lined up for the start. A huge low pressure trough met the crews over the mid-Atlantic yet the winners only needed two weeks to reach Cartagena. Yves Parlier recorded a double with Eric Tabarly as his co-skipper in the monohull class, whereas the Bourgnon brothers easily dominated the multihull fleet.
